Scripture Thoughts #3
Genesis 15
In Genesis 15, God made His covenant with Abram - to bless him with a son and a forthcoming nation. This promise was exactly what Abram had longed for, the deepest desire in his heart. However, God followed up this promise with another: that Abram’s descendants would first be sojourners and servants in a land that was not theirs, for hundreds of years.
And while God did promise retribution for the nation that would enslave them, centuries of pain and suffering were their future before the nation was even truly born.
There are many reasons for this, but one thought I had was: God is the God of both the lowly and the powerful; both the slave and the king; both the holy and those in desperate need of redemption. God was the God of Israel in their lowest points and in their most abundant. And He’s our God, in times of suffering and in times when life seems perfect. We can’t forget this.
